Farm Fields to Front Yards

Hydroseeding in Pflugerville usually happens on ground that was farmed for well over a century. Henry Pfluger and his family settled here from late 1849, raising corn, wheat, rye and sugar cane, and the first cotton gin went up in 1904. Through most of the 1980s, new development made Pflugerville one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas, and those fields have been turning into subdivisions ever since.

Working old cropland

Long-farmed soil is often compacted at plow depth and low in organic matter at the surface. Before a new lawn installation we rip or till compacted areas, fine grade for drainage, and make sure the top inch is loose enough for seed to make contact. That prep matters more than the brand of seed.

Two creeks run through it

The city has two creeks, Gilleland Creek and Wilbarger Creek, plus Lake Pflugerville, a 180-acre reservoir built in 2005 for drinking water. A local school group monitors Wilbarger Creek water quality with the LCRA. Sediment from bare construction lots is one of the easiest pollutants to stop, with silt fence, inlet protection and quick hydromulch cover.

A city of trails and parks

Pflugerville has 28 developed parks, more than 40 miles of trails and over 1,000 acres of parks and open space, and in 2023 it began calling itself the Trail Capital of Texas. Trail shoulders, regraded park edges and new sports fields like those at 1849 Park are good hydroseeding jobs: long, narrow or wide-open areas that need even cover fast.

Along SH 130

Commercial growth along State Highway 130 and Pecan Street brings building pads, detention ponds and drainage channels. We seed and stabilize those areas so a site can pass inspection and close out.

Pflugerville Questions

My new yard is rock hard. Will hydroseed grow on it?

Not well until the compaction is broken up. We loosen and grade the soil first, then seed.

Do you seed around detention ponds?

Yes. Pond slopes and outfalls usually need a heavier mulch or blankets so the first big rain does not cut gullies.

Can you seed a trail shoulder or easement?

Yes, as long as the truck or hose can reach it. Long narrow areas are easy to cover with a hydroseeder.

Is silt fence required near Gilleland Creek?

Requirements depend on your permit and site plan. Even when it is not required, it is a cheap way to keep your soil out of the creek.
